BILETA 2016: A huge success

Hertfordshire University School of Law was delighted to host the 31st annual BILETA (British and Irish Law, Education and Technology Association) conference.

The two-day conference was a huge success, with 120 speakers and participants from all over the world. We are very proud of all of our special events; including the IP Bill and Surveillance Panel, the Google PhD Workshop, The Right to Be Forgotten, and War of Words, as well as distinguished keynote speakers such as; Professor Eric Goldman of Santa Clara University, Professor Dan Katz of Chicago-Kent College of Law, and Professor Lilian Edwards of University of Strathclyde.

For the first time ever, this year’s conference awarded two separate PhD prizes. Damien Clifford and Valerie Verdoodt (KU Leuven) and Val Swain (University of East Anglia) won BILETA awards for the best postgraduate papers. Following a very successful Google PhD workshop, Laurence Diver (University of Edinburgh) received the Google PhD Award which was voted for by the workshop participants who read three competing papers in advance of the event.

School of Law lecturers, Edina Harbinja and Felipe Romero Moreno, will be guest editing special BILETA editions of the International Review of Law, Computers and Technology and the European Journal of Law and Technology. BILETA delegates will be invited to submit their papers for consideration for publishing.

A special thanks goes to the conference sponsors, Google and Oxford University press.
